If you know me well, then you know I love watching documentaries on Netflix. So, I wanted to list a few movies that are empowering girls on NETFLIX. Feel free to watch these movies and share this post with others.
1. Girl Rising
GIRL RISING is stories of 9 girls from developing countries show them overcoming great obstacles to obtain an education and change their fates. Michelle Obama's educational campaign for girls called #62MillionGirls recently partnered with Girl Rising.
2. HE NAMED ME MALALA
HE NAMED ME MALALA is a movie many are familiar with. The youngest Noble Piece Prize Laureate, Malala Yousafzai was almost killed by Talibans for speaking out for girls' education. She's a Pakistanian teenage girl who advocates for children's rights.
3. DARK GIRLS
DARK GIRLS is a documentary filming the deep-rooted biases and attitudes about skin color, particularly dark skinned women. It goes underneath the surface to explore the prejudices that dark-skinned women face throughout the world.
4. AMERICAN PROMISE
AMERICAN PROMISE is a documentary that was 13 years in the making. The filmwriters were 2 middle-class African American families from Brooklyn who documented the journey of their sons through the education system.
5. THE NEW PUBLIC
THE NEW PUBLIC is a group of ambitious educators who create a small public high school in an underdeserved neighborhood. When their idealistic vision is confronted with some harsh realities faced by the community, they struggle to adapt. This documentary films over a 4 year span to follow the freshmans to their senior year.
